Days 266-272: I love me some wearable art!

5 Oct

I had so much fun with my crow cameo that I just had to make more!  Over the past couple of days I’ve made 3 more shrink film necklaces.  Unfortunately, I had some adhesive issues, but after finding this stuff……all’s good!  It even comes in clear!!!

So time to show the goods!

retro chic!

Aren’t they lovely?  I love how they have the look of something old but are still kinda modern.  And they were soooooooooooooooooo easy!

pwetty!

Day 165: Beads Beautiful Beads

20 Jun

One of my summer goals is to reboot my Etsy site.  I make so much stuff…I have to get rid of it somehow…and if I can make some $$ on the side…:-D

I got to work today making a fabulous beaded necklace and earring set.  I know I tend to say this about everything I make, but this really is my best yet!  Part of me doesn’t want to give it up for sale…

ooooh aaaaah

It’s glass and ceramic beads with silver tone findings.  Check out the matching earrings!

🙂

and together

I hope someone out there likes them…cuz I could really use the $$!

Days 134 – 139: Yes…I’m an addict.

25 May

Hello.  My name is Marissa, and I am a True Blood addict.  I have watched almost every episode of all 3 seasons in the past week, and, as a result, have seriously neglected myself, my home, my kitties, and my blog.  I realize that my addiction is irrational, especially considering how campy and poorly acted True Blood is, but I am powerless against it.  Help!

Unfortunately, my True Blood binge has kept my computer tied up over the past couple days.  I just can’t seem to tear myself away long enough to post.  However, that doesn’t mean that I didn’t giggle!  Let me sum up what I’ve done the past 5 days…

Spent most of Saturday preparing for the end of the world.  It didn’t come.  Bummer…or not.  Actually, I was pretty psyched that I got to live another day.  And another.  Imagine that…me…happy about life!  Have I ever changed?!

Anyway, so I was house/catsitting this weekend for the parental units (Trivia question of the day: Where did the term “parental units” come from?).  Their cat is freakin’ weird.  She’s afraid of the dark and has never been alone, so…..Molly spent all weekend hiding in the basement.  I spent Saturday night watching True Blood and drawing mermaids.  I turned my favorite into the painting below.

So there she is in all her splendor.  This is the first one to which I added environmental details.  I haven’t collaged a background for her yet, but she’s nice so far.  She literally took me 2 days of drawing and one of painting, during which I sliced my hand open and bled all over the glass.  I guess you could say I put blood, sweat, and tears into this piece.  Or maybe I was just trying to act out scenes from True Blood.  Either way…

I have another swap due out tomorrow.  This one is a “craft your craft” swap for a lady in Florida.  She said her favorite colors are blue and green, so I made her a chunky turquoise necklace!

I love using natural materials in my jewelry.  It’s like wearing Mother Earth around your neck…Okay, okay….enough with the hippie nonsense.  I just really hope she likes it!

Day 98: Bead bonanza!

15 Apr

Spring break is finally here!!!!!  I am so very ready for this vacation.  I look forward to a blissfully relaxing week.  Unfortunately, I do have a to-do list of errands and tasks that have to be done this week.  I might as well start on them now, right?

One of the items on my list is to restock my jewelry display at my uncle’s store.  I’ve sold a lot of pieces recently, and my inventory is kinda low right now.  It’s time to do some beading!  Here’s what I made tonight…

T

This necklace is made from swarovski crystals and glass beads.  My favorite part aside from the super sparkly crystals is the magnetic closure I found today at Joanne Fabric.  This wasn’t the only piece I beaded today…

These are 3 bracelets I made using the same magnetic closures.  I hope other people like them as much as I do (I desperately need the extra $$!!).

Day 94: All that glitters is not gold

11 Apr

Today was a rough day.  It was go go go all day long, and I am sooooo ready to drop right about now!  What it really comes down to is…I really really really hate Mondays.

To cheer myself up, I decided to bead some jewelry today.  Today’s giggle is a lariat necklace made of blue sodalite, cultured pearls, Swarovski crystals, and Tibetan silver findings.

very sparkly!

Ignore the bad photo…It’s late, and I’m tired.  Here’s a pic of me wearing my creation:

Cheese!

Hmm…..what to wear with it tomorrow….?

Day 45: Beribboned!

21 Feb

Sometimes I feel stuck.  I do the same basic things day in and day out.  I make the same crafty stuff over and over, and I get bored of it.  I swear…sometimes I think I have the attention span of a flea!  It’s not that I can’t concentrate on something, things just get monotonous really quickly.  I’ve got to change it up to stay sane.

I think this is why I’ve always loved learning new things.  A lot of people get freaked out by the challenge, but I see knowledge as an end to boredom.  Good thing too, because I came across a great tutorial today on Ruffled.  The tutorial is nice and clear, there are great pictures of the steps, and I love the overall look of the necklace.  I took the basic idea and ran with it.

and the finished product!

Hmm….it doesn’t look like much on the table.  How about on me?

That’s better….I guess.  Why do some things work so well in theory but not in practice?  The example necklace is so chic and elegant.  Mine…..not so much.  Well, at least it’s worth a laugh!

Day 22: Roses are red…

29 Jan

Because of all the snow, Scott has to work today (booooooooooo!) which meant I was home alone.  I had fully intended to clean the apartment today…really I did….but I got sidetracked by craftiness.  Specifically, I was sucked in by the coolness of Craft Snob!  I’ve been making flower accessories for quite some time now, and I was getting bored with the same styles over and over.  Craft Snob has some awesome fabric flower tutorials, and I decided to try one out.

Here she is!

Hello world!

Isn’t the necklace soooooooooooooooooooooooo pretty?!  It’s a great statement piece for a little black dress.

and a close up of the girls (and necklace too)

Scott thinks it looks like the Orin from Never Ending Story.  Tee hee!
