Days 254-261: Should I be calling this “My SOMETIMES Giggle”???????????

25 Sep

It’s slow getting back on the blogging wagon…much slower than I thought.  I’m feeling a bit guilty actually that I didn’t meet my original goals of blogging daily.  Maybe I need to rethink things….once a week isn’t terrible, right?  I could change the name to My Weekly Giggle.  Or would that be giving up?  Ugh!!!

Anyway…I’ve had another lost week here in Marissaland.  I’ve had this horrible cold that I just can’t shake.  Granted, it doesn’t help that my pregnant a$$ can’t take anything that will actually work!  It’s taken 2 weeks, but I’m finally starting to feel a bit better.  If only I could say the same for hubby dearest….

Since I was yucky forever (so it seems), I only had the energy for one bit of craftiness this week.  I’m still involved in mail swaps via Swap-bot, and I had a dotee doll swap due this week.  For those of you who don’t remember what a dotee doll is…click here!

Here she is folks!

Isn’t she a doll? (ba dum bum)  I love her little tutu and her crystal encrusted face.  She kept me busy while lying ill in bed watching countless episodes of Californication…..which is freakin hysterical by the way.  I highly recommend it.

On a side note…did I mention that my year and a half old Dell bit the big one this summer?  Thankfully I had the sense to back up all my files.  Someone was nice enough to give us a refurb as a belated wedding gift (2 years belated, but who cares!).  I have yet to load Photoshop on here or upload my backed up files so pardon the unedited image.  Hey….at least I’m back in the saddle again!  🙂

Day 164: Furry Love

19 Jun

I don’t understand (or trust) people who don’t like animals.  What’s not to like?  Pets give unconditional furry love.  They want to be around you regardless of your flaws.  They love you for who you are (and it doesn’t hurt that you feed them either).  Animals are wonderful!

That being said, I got so much great feedback on my catfish painting that I just had to make another.  This time…..I added a mermaid too!

Aren’t they precious?!

Days 162 and 163: Fun with Photos!

18 Jun

I ❤ my new camera.  It has so many fun little features.  It makes taking really good pictures so easy.  And the zoom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  FABULOUS!!!!!

So here it is…my new toy!

Nikon Coolpix L120

It’s so purdy!  Much better than  my 6 year old dinosaur Kodak.  Isn’t it amazing how fast technology becomes obsolete?  Anyway…so I spent the past 2 days taking ever kind of picture I could.  Below is the best of the best.

THE 1st pic ever taken on my new camera! (okay okay...so Scott took this one..but still!)

Who's my little furry boy?!

Lucky people enjoying Oyster Bay Harbor....Have I mentioned that I want a boat?

We actually tried to take our kayak out, but had some technical difficulties. These people obviously didn't...

I enjoyed the beach anyway!

Days 145-148: I’m baaaaaaaack!

3 Jun

Hello there!  Good to see you.  It’s been a while.

So the week from hell is finally over.  Nothing bad happened…I’ve just been super incredibly busy with stuff.  I started a yoga class that will last through the summer.  I’m seeing a new doctor to help with my back issues.  And today was the last teaching day of the school year!!!!!!!!

With everything that’s been going on, I just couldn’t find the time to post.  I did make stuff though.  Lots of giggles happening here!  First up is another funky pillbox hat.

Believe it or not, I actually made this one with my club kids.  They thought it was hysterical.  Theirs came out pretty cute too.  Will I ever wear this one?….probably not.

except maybe this once...

Eccentric much?

Anyway…so that was Tuesday’s giggle.  Wednesday I was just too busy to do anything.  Yesterday’s giggle is a fun photo…

It's alive!!!!!!

Remember my herb garden?  It’s only been a week, and this sh!t’s growing like crazy!  I have no idea which of the herbs those are, but I can’t wait to find out!  I’m looking forward to some homemade caprese salad this summer!

Last of all is today’s giggle.  I’ve been working so much with my curvy mermaids lately….it was time for a bit of a change.  Today, I chose to paint something else…

Isn’t he cute?!!!!!!  I think the next painting will be a curvy mermaid with her pet catfish.  🙂

Day 103: Ice and hot towels

20 Apr

Have I mentioned that I love spring?!  Yup, I love it.  A lot.  Especially the spring break part.  Spring break is awesome!!!!!

The weather was so nice and warm today.  For the first time in months, hubby dearest and I took a nice long walk after dinner.  The air was sweet with the scent of blooming flowers…and Italian ices!

We just had to get some!  There’s a place about 1/2 mile from my home that Scott and I like to go to.  It’s a seasonal place, so we wait patiently all winter for the day when they open their doors….which was about a week ago.  I love their ices.  It’s got all the flavor of ice cream without being quite so heavy.  I tried a new flavor today: apple crumb.  Yum-o!

my inspiration

I love wandering the neighborhood at night.  It’s so calm and peaceful.  It’s even better when enjoying a delicious dessert!

While I love having me time, I can’t forget about all the things on my to-do list.  Scott and I tried to put the laundry away, but Penny had other ideas…

Which one of these things doesn't belong here?

Huh? What?

Who disturbs thy slumberrrrrr?

Day 84: Big kitty roar

1 Apr

My cat, Penny, is trying to escape.  She waits by the door in hopes of freedom.  Every once in a while, she actually manages to make it down the stairs too, but I always catch her before she gets outside.  Today, Scott was carrying Penny back up the stairs from yet another escape attempts when she made the weirdest, most awesome sound ever.  Unfortunately, I didn’t catch it on camera….but I did my best to recreate it.

No joke.  That is seriously what she sounded like today.  I swear, she’s turning into a mountain lion…Should I be scared?

Day 57: Cat on a hot red leash!

5 Mar

My goal in life is to be the crazy cat lady.  Perfection is an old lady in a rocking chair with a lap full of kitties.  And grandchildren.  Maybe even a shotgun.  Yeah…I’m going to be one of those old ladies!

I’m well on my way to crazy cat lady land with my two precious furkids that I love and adore.  Penny and Desmo make me smile every single day.  I am so lucky to have two such amazing animals living in my home.  It is with the best of intentions that I spoil them rotten.

I’ve mentioned before that I’m a little weird.  I definitely march to my own beat.  I like it that way.  Anyway, I’ll admit that I do some pretty odd things including, but not limited to, taking my cat for walks.  Now both my cats are officially of the indoor variety.  They live in my house year round and are not permitted to wander the neighborhood like the cats I grew up with.  It’s a safety thing, really.  I had one cat growing up who was shot with bb gun and another who almost hung herself jumping over a fence.  I think I’d die if anything like that happened to my precious little babies!  As a result, they are kept strictly indoors….at least unless they’re wearing leashes.

Yes, I said leash.  Here’s a lovely pic of my man taking Penny for a nice stroll this afternoon.  It was such a pretty day out, and Penny looooooooooooooves going for walks!

This way Daddy!

We’ve been taking her out on a leash since she was a kitten.  Unlike walking a dog, there’s no poop involved with walking a cat.  She uses a litter box indoors and would never imagine doing otherwise.  Penny sees the great outdoors as a giant playground with all kinds of exciting sights and smells.  She just can’t get enough of it.  Her favorite thing to do outside?

Cat in spaaaaaaaaaace!

She loves rolling around on pavement!  I don’t get it, but if it makes her happy….

Should anyone want to try taking a cat for a walk, I have a few simple pieces of advice:

1. Always use a harness, not a collar.  Cat’s are contortionists and can get out of a collar pretty easily if they want to.  As for the harness, I prefer one that clips around the neck and around the belly.  Make sure it’s snug but not too tight.

2. Short leashes are your friends.  Cats can bolt at the slightest noise, be it car or bird.  You need to make sure they can’t go too far and end up hurting themselves or some other innocent creature.

3. Protect your cat.  Chances are good that she’ll want to explore places that you can’t get to like under decks and behind fences.  Who knows what could be back there.  Use common sense!  Also, flea and tick medicine is a good idea in warmer months.  Flea bites are yucky, and don’t get me started on ticks…

4. Lastly, pay attention to your cat.  She’ll let you know where she wants to go and how she’s feeling about the experience.  Penny always gets super affectionate when she’s outside to let me know she’s happy.  She also lets me know when she wants in by walking back to the door.  Desmo, on the other hand, is terrified of his own shadow and has a panic attack when taken outside.  Different personalities on different animals.

Does anyone else walk their cat?

Day 50: Let the cat out of the (laundry) bag

27 Feb

I HATE laundromats.  They’re crowded and dirty and full of screaming children pushing metal baskets into my legs.  I loathe laundry day for this reason, and I must admit that I put it off until it’s absolutely necessary.  Or Scott does it.  Whichever comes first.

Yesterday was laundry day in my home.  Scott got up at some ungodly hour and took everything down to the laundromat hoping to beat the crowds.  I love when he does laundry!  So does Penny…

Warm and cozy!

She’s a burrower.  I swear she’s part gopher or something.  She sleeps under the covers, cuddles under my shirt, and burrows into fresh warm piles of laundry that I’m in the process of putting away!

She’s lucky she’s cute!  It’s soooooo annoying!

Day 23: It’s my party, and I’ll cry if I want to!

30 Jan

Today was a very special day.  Not only was it the anniversary of my first date with the hubby, but it’s also Desmond’s 3rd birthday!!  To celebrate, I decided to make my furry little boy a happy birthday cake…

Pretty, isnt it?  Those are freeze dried liver treats decorating the top.  I should do this professionally.  Anyway…my babies were going crazy while I was making this thing.  But of course, the minute it became apparent that we wanted Desmo to be somewhere specific, he freaked out and hid under the living room chair!

Look up "scaredy cat" in the dictionary and you'll see me!

As the birthday boy had a hissy fit in the corner, Penny decided to take advantage of his absence and chow down.

nom nom nom

It quite literally took 10 minutes for Desmo to realize that we weren’t trying to feed him poisoned cake.  He did finally have some though.

party time!

They’re such messy eaters, but I love them!  Happy Birthday Desmond!
